So to follow the last post of a great demonstration of Jiu Jitsu by Masters Rickson and Royler Gracie, which included self defenses as well sparring (or rolling), I came across a small article on GrapplingWeekly.com that tied in extremely well with it. In the article Master Rickson states that “competition Jiu Jitsu represents only 30% of real Jiu Jitsu.” You can read the article here.
Then, low and behold, this video pops up on YouTube, which I came across on one of my Franco Behring teammate’s Facebook page. In it you will find the likes of Grand Master’s Helio Gracie, Carlos Gracie & Joao Alberto Barreto as well as Master Carlson Gracie & Sensei George Mehdi. (sorry if I got any of those titles wrong. Ousssss.) In their demonstration, which was to get Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sanctioned by one of the most important presidents in Brazil’s history: Getúlio Vargas, they show the compete realm of jiu jitsu which Master Rickson talks about. Please watch and enjoy this video.
Be sure to look around GrapplingWeekly.com while you’re there. There are some great articles, videos & photos as well as events, news & results sections. Definitely one to bookmark and come back too.
Found this video on Facebook and just had to pass it along. It’s two BJJ masters doing a Jiu Jitsu demo at a Pride Fighting event in April of 1999. Watch and enjoy! Ousssssss!

You may have seen it posted all over Facebook, but if you haven’t, come to Rio for sun, fun and training! Professor Francis at Rio Sports Tour has put together an amazing camp for Franco Behring team members this summer to travel to Rio and live like a carioca!

This article was brought to my attention by one of our students. It is a refreshing look at what Brazilian Jiu Jitsu really is, a self defense martial art. It was sent in a email newsletter that you can sign up for by going to The Wise Grappler website and submitting your name and email address. While your there, check out his other articles on grappling and BJJ. Great stuff.
“Imagine that you stop off at a convenience store after work to get a soda and as you’re walking through the door, a guy runs out the store and bumps into you.
You say excuse me for your part in the mishap, even though it wasn’t your fault, but the guy drops his soda and now demands that you buy him another or he’ll kick your butt.
And as you try one futile attempt after another to resolve the issue peacefully, our rude friend decides to…
I came across this great video while visiting a site that really helped kick start my outlook on physical fitness; www.rosstraining.com.
From Ross’ site; “Founded by Ross Enamait, RossTraining.com is dedicated to excellence and innovations in high performance conditioning and strength development. My goal with this site is to provide a content rich resource designed to assist you in the pursuit of your own unique goals.”
If you have the time to visit his site, do it. And be sure to check out his articles. Some pretty informative stuff.
In the video Will Smith shares some great wisdom on working hard to achieve success, his positivity towards life and more. Whether it is acting, training, your career, or your life in general, in order to have success you must love what you are doing and you must put in the work. There are no other ways around it. Only in the dictionary dose success come before work; and positivity comes before both of those.
It’s a little over due, but after getting a virus on my computer, then a back-up, format and reinstall of my computer system, I’ve finally gotten around to posting the pictures from Professor Marco Costa’s visit to London BJJ. Sorry for the delay.
Franco Behring members from London, Orangeville and Toronto, as well as a few guests from other London area BJJ clubs, were present for a great seminar on Jan 2nd, 2010. Professor Marco went over some great drills for sport competition as well as some basic fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Words can’t really explain what he is like as an instructor. You’ll have to come out to the next seminar to really understand why they call him “The Encyclopedia”. Thank you Professor for your continued support of London BJJ! See you on the mats! Namaste.
